Pic of the Day: Barely Recognizable Crosswalk on Brickell
We already know that pedestrians have a rough time in Miami, but it doesn’t help when we can’t even maintain our crosswalks properly striped. I guess we should feel lucky that we even have a barely recognizable crosswalk here. Many intersections in downtown and Brickell don’t have crosswalks. This picture was taken in front of the Brickell Metromover Station, perhaps one of the most utilized Metromover stops on Brickell Avenue and SE 14th Street.

My Department’s sister agency, the Florida Department of Transportation has let a contract (Project No. 412473-1-52-01) to reconstruct Brickell Av. between SE 5 & 25 Sts. Construction should begin in a few months. Expect new striping, along with a newly beautiful roadway soon thereafter.

Miami-Dade Public Works
Thanks you Mr. Williams. I have made a formal request to FDOT for the drawings/design plans for this project.
This is a major project; I hope FDOT’s focus is on pedestrians and cyclists and not necessarily to move cars faster (i.e Biscayne Blvd). Cars already move way too fast down Brickell Avenue and there is a lack of crosswalks, bike lanes/sharrows and traffic calming devices. Transit Miami will be following this project very closely.
Thank you for reading Transit Miami. Your comments are very much appreciated.
